So what do you do?

As the Director of Progress, I spend a lot of my time anticipating the future of the company and the travel industry as a whole, both short term and long term. I work closely with our Chief Excellence Officer, figuring out how to carry out his vision for Travel Masters. I also work closely with the rest of the Support Team to help disseminate that message to the rest of our crew. A lot of the work does involve implementing these plans and solutions, and tracking them closely to monitor progress.

So James, what is your definition of "progress"?

I'm a Get Things Done type of person, so for me, progress means never standing still. Whether it's personal growth or strategic planning for a company, taking a stagnant position on anything can quickly kill a project. Of course, in order to Get Things Done, there has to be a good amount of momentum and enthusiasm behind it. I'm lucky to work with a team who believes in our future long term goals as much as I do.

Do you have any tips or tricks for progression?

My background isn't as a travel agent so it gives me a fresh perspective on things and it removes a lot of limitations that others might have. It also gives me the ability to push limits and boundaries as well as directly challenge the traditional way of doing things.

And what's this about you being an ambulance medic by night?

It's one of my not-so-secret identities. I'm a volunteer ambulance medic and I love what I do. My medic role acts as a reminder of the importance of communication and is a great learning base for crisis management. My experiences and training have allowed me to keep a calm head in times of turmoil and to approach situations carefully. This is of direct benefit to many areas of my job within Travel Masters.
